just had a call off a m8 been knocked off his bike honda xr 125 filtering through traffic this morning ...... (WOMAN) pulled out on him knocked him off the bikes not too bad but not able to be ridden (snapped gear lever and snapped chain) just badly bruised himself but knocked his confidence a little which is a shame as he,s got his test this thursday (whoops) Sad

    Kwacky:

I never filter. I sit patiently behind the traffic and wait my turn.

Are you serious? I'll filter through nearly stationary traffic or slow moving traffic but it depends on conditions. In the event of an accident I think the best you get is 50 / 50 in terms of fault.

My instructor turned up later for my mock DAS test when I was taking it a few years back because he had been a witness to an accident on the A14. We went out for a mock test and I thought everything was good for getting to the test on time. He then turned to me and said if I wanted to get there on time I should follow him closely and keep a good eye to the left for any traffic coming at us - as he gave me an impromtu lesson in filtering through the rush hour in Cambridge Smile

If nothing else it stopped me from thinking about the test too much!

Sorry to hear about the mate Bratty. A knackered gear lever and broken chain isn't too bad to fix for Thursday. If he's still taking the test I wish him the best of luck. The best thing to do after experiences like that is to get back out there as soon as possible taking any lessons learnt with you.

    Re: FILTERING

Sorry to hear about your mate.  How did the chain break? Look in the bike mags - always plenty of motorbike lawyers advertised.

I pretty much always filter.  Only when  out with other riders i sometimes dont bother - as I dont want to make them feel like they have to do sommet they dont feel comfy with.

Only time I wont filter as much is if I have to turn left at the junction ahead.  Unless I can see a gap i can squeeze into before the junction.

    Re: FILTERING

Is this the guy at Bassets with you last week? was his name jase?

I filter sometimes and other times i think better of it. Depends on the weather conditions, number of coppers about, how tired i am etc.

One downside to it though is you are more likely to get a puncture cos you are riding in spaces cars never do so they have more road crap on them.

    Re: FILTERING

Never good to hear about. filtering is a risky business, I had someone cut across me on sunday while out with a couple of mates, was reasonably close.

I hope he can put it to the back of his mind, best of luck on thursday...

    Re: FILTERING

Just tell him to forget about it and make sure he passes his test! It can happen to anyone.

Any crash where you can get up and walk away is a good one!
