    Proposed road tax increase, petition

The Government is considering proposals to up to double tax on motorcycles from next year

If you disagree (which I presume you do!) please sign this on-line petition:

I do not know if it will do any good, but nothing ventured...

I haven't heard about these tax rises nor have I checked myself but I'm happy to take you word and signed up.

I've signed a fair few of these petitions, I wonder if they do any good. When a few million people marched in London in protest against the imminant invasion of Iraq the government just seemed to ignore it and go along with the US anyway. Be interesting to see a response from the goverment stating which petitions have prompted new research or legislation or anything really. The No 10 web site sometimes responds to petitions, but all the responses I've read just simply re-state the status quo, it's like talking to a brick wall.

If this tax rise proposal is true, it would be cool if a mass ride out was organised in London to bring the place to a stand still. Even if the government didn't listen it would be cool riding with so many other people and bring some publicity to the situation Smile

Oh I also read in MCN that Ken Livingstone was against bieks using bus lands in London but Boris Johnson was all for it, I wonder if anything will come of this. If it's implemented in London I would have thought other cities will follow suit Yes

The government does NOT listen to the populace...Gordon Brown has just admitted it! They only ever listen if they think they'll get booted out pf power.

Well, for what it's worth I've signed up. I so sign a few of these things and I agree, the last one was a trying to get the government to reconise that fuel duty has got out of control. The response was that they intended to keep adding to the fuel duty, at least inline with inflation !! Then there was the usual crap about "we're only doing for the environment.. BS BS BS"

They had the bar faced cheek to close the email with this quote:

    Thieving Bastards:
It remains the case that the retail price of fuel at the pump is ultimately a matter for retailers and their suppliers, and fuel duty is just one of a range of factors which determine the price paid by the motorist.

In 2007 63.7p of every litre costing 95.1p was pure tax... (info from www.petrolprices.com)
