    The Bad

Was in court yesterday on a speeding charge 52mph in a 30 mph limit.

Yeah I know I was a total nob but its not quite as bad as it sounds.

I went to court suited and booted looking suitablely ashamed. Told the judge the truth which was I had just entered a 30 limit after travelling on an unfamilar rural road and failed to see the speed limit change but did slow to 30 mph within 150 yards of entering the 30 which was before I saw the camera van as I genuiely don t speed in 30 limits. I told them it was a momentary lapse of concentration and that I was ashamed my observation was so poor as I had previously been an observer for the IAM and that the incident had highlighted my skills needed a refresh, which I had proactively done myself by paying to go on a bikesafe course with south yorkshire police. I had a charatcer reference off my wifes uncle who is a magistrate and told them I wanted to rejoin the IAM but was awaiting their verdict before applying as I had been told membership is assessed on how many points are on your lience.

I told them that I accepted I was speeding and would take responsibilty for my actions but asked for them to consider I was not just recklessly speeding past a school but for about 150 metres only as I missed the speed limit change sign. I also told them I had a clean lience as I was NOT a speeder or ever convicted of such.

I then went on to challenge the 52mph speed recorded as I believed it in accurate and that the laserscope LTI20.20 used must have had an error called slip error as I was confident I was doing 40-44 mph maximum. The laser caught me as I was rounding a bend and the laser cross hairs were on my narrow front tyre in the photographic evidence they presented which was constantly moving and my bike had a large moving side profile which was open to slip error. I had numerous copies of evidence where this had been proved and magistrates had accepted the fact slip error is a very real problem and that the home office who approved the device stated it was open to erroneous readings.

I was very repsectful and humble the whole time.

They listened to me with patiences and I thought all was going well. They even asked if I had not just been offered a fixed penalty of 3 points and £60 fine which I said no I had nt but I believed that would be a suitable punishment and hoped they would agree.

THEY SAID - 6 points , £341 fine, £35 costs and £15 for the goverement (they always have to have their cut)

I SAID - Thanks but I normally liked to be kissed before I get fooked.

    Re: The Bad

I agree Ray they don t care about the circumstances or anything else they just see it as cash generation. You may think I m being a little bit cyncial saying that but whilst the magistrates retired to plot my big arse fooking I was listening to the court clerk and police prosecutor. I heard the prosecutor say buisness was bad this month compared to last year and they had only raised £600 as opposed to £970 the same month the year before and that they could not afford to loose a third of their buisness Angry

Another thing that really anoyed me is why do the goverement profit from it with another stealth tax Angry I know its only 15 quid but its the principle.

Your also very right the best thing too do is forget it and thats what I intend to do but it has put me of road riding and thats why I have got myself a track day bike now Big Smile.

    Re: The Bad

Sounded like you put case forward very well, but they still hit you with that.

Did you play the I need a clean license to continue my job card? A few friends said that in court and got away with a fine.

Sorry to hear all that Steve...but TBH in the current climtae it could have been even worse! The Government are proposing that soon it will be an automatic 6 points for 45 in a 30 limit.

The Courts are currently half empty cos the police are either cautioning for 'minor' offences ( like being caught with drugs, burglary etc Tongue Tied) and a lot of speeders are being given these driving awareness courses instead.

My missus works in the Magistrates Courts and they are all very concerned about the future cos Courts are only sitting half the time allocated to them. So the moral is beat up old people, assaults, drug pushing is all OK under the fuckwits in charge of this country....but driving a bit faster is an antisocial, major criminal offence for which your life will be turned upside down. I'm not condoning speeding per se...but common sense has gone right out the window.

    Re: The Bad

I realise it could have been worse but I just expected and hoped they might have been lenient given the circumstances but it seems its a black and white decision to them and I m sure the reasons you give are why but it still stinks when your one the recieving end [:'(].

Anyway I m fogetting it now and going for a spin on my new Ninja Big Smile can t think of a better way to forget it Wink

PS Cheers for your help a few months ago D63 when we talked about it earlier, as always its appreciated Yes.

    Re: The Bad

I actually heard the district prosecutor who was in court when I was there stating that robbery and shop lifting got an £80 fixed penalty these days and over filling your wheelie bin with the wrong recyclable waste got a £100 fine Tongue Tied

People like us are an easy target for cash. We earn money as opposed to being given it by the goverment as hand outs and comply with the law and have too much to loose so they pick on us as easy prey Angry

    Re: The Bad

Sadly the legal system is not about punishing the wicked, making society safer, or justice and fairness anymore.

Its been hijacked by lefty do-gooders who want to punish those who work hard whilst giving it to the lazy, idle and scum! I never thought i would say that but it is definitley true. Most police and high civil service appointments are only politically motivated.

The guy who was in charge of the whole Court system up til last year, Sir Arse licker or whatever his name is, got paid off upon retirement with a £400k golden handshake last year...but was 'accidentally' overpaid by £85k. When the Unions found this out they asked the Government when he was going to pay it back but the Government said they were to embarrassed too and wouldn't be asking for its return. Despite the Courts having to make a 3% cut in budget across the whole board!!!! Corruption is rife!

Oh and the £80 for shoplifting, Blade, is only after you have been cautioned for the same offence once before. You only get fined on the 2nd time you are caught!

Good work! And if you get caught just tell them you haven't £80 to pay it with anyway...then you can pay it back at 50p per week!

Not being funny mate but how many left wing Magistrates and Civil Servants do you know. My experience of these arseholes is that they're are all middle class Tory wankers!
