    Quick shifters

Was flicking through BiKE magazine at lunch today.  Noticed in the new gizmo's section a  quick shifter for sale (not cheap - about £250 i think).  Anyway, it says it works by shutting the revs slightly for smooth gear changes. I do this normally when acclerating anyway - but not when stamping down the gears.  Will this allow clutchless down shifts too?  Will they be smooth?  Does it only work under hard acceleration/decelleration?  Or would it work at cruising too?

Just thinking of ways to help my shit wrist tendons to last longer.

    Re: Quick shifters

LOL - nothing wrong with the Suzuki Burgman.  My instructor rode one when teaching me.

But what I meant was when I commute - i dont use clutchless shifts (or when in town centres) as the revs aren't rising fast enough for it to be smooth. Would this be okay for gentle acceleration (like when pulling off from lights - but in a 30 zone) so I dont need to use the clutch?  And also teh same for braking.

That way I can reduce the amount of times I actually need to use the clutch - and prolong my wrist.

My bike USE to have one.
It messed with the electrics and only problems I've had with the bike was because of this.
It only works when your flat out too, and its to stop you using the clutch or rolling off.

Ta for that.  No point then.  I use clutchless when falt out already anyway no problem.  It was just at low revs I wondered if it worked.

    Re: Quick shifters

For road riding, a QS won't give you much benefit over clutchless upshifting.  On track, the benefit is that you keep the throttle wide open when you change up, rather than the quick back-off in normal cluthchless upshifting.  This also allows you to upshift when cranked over without upsetting the bike.

    Re: Quick shifters

It won't help with your wrists (maybe you need to swap hands every now and again to even them up Wink ) but aftermarket rearsets can really help to smooth out a clunky gear change. I was also suprised at how much a new chain made for much smoother drive and gear changes.

    Re: Quick shifters

Rearsets do improve the gear changes and there's nowt like a new chain to freshen the bike up.
