has anyone noticed lately how many bikers see a little bit of sunshine and decide to go out on their bikes without protective clothing ....................................i half expect it with some of these youngsters on scooters, but i kid you not i was at the petrol station this evening and there was a guy filling up his gsx 750 while looking like he,d just come of the beach ...................vest shorts and not forgetting SANDALS what a plonker Hmm

    Re: summer biking

I wear all my gear no matter how hot (hey maybe its like a mini sauna and i will sweat off a few pounds Big Smile)

Saw some guy on a KTM RC8 pull up in the garage locally with his bird on the back, he had boots on, and his protective kit consisted of a t shirt and fleece and some lightweight trouser things and his bird just had jeans and a top on, you'd think if you had enough money to get that sort of bike you may have enough sense to buy some kit (especially for the other half!).

People must think it hurts less falling off when its sunny?

    Re: summer biking

If i'm just nipping into town i'll sometimes wear jeans, riding boots and a jacket, and gloves. Never just a t shirt

    Re: summer biking

Saw a guy on the M5 on Tuesday, tanking down the outside lane at 90mph+ wearing just leather, helmet , jeans and trainers...no gloves at all!

I cannot for the life of me understand how anyone thinks riding a bike with no gloves is a good idea, aside from your head, its the part of you that needs protecting most..without your fingers you would not be able to do anything!

all the kit all of the time. I know it can be a pain in the arse to get kitted up but 10 minutes before you go out on the bike has to be better than dealing with road rash.

I agree totally, even poping round the corner to fuel up is a full gear excercise.. The stats says that most accidents happen within a few miles of your home..

My real bug bear is one thing I used to see a lot in farnborough. 17 year old spotty oik on his 125 race rep that mummy and daddy bought for his birthday, leather jacket, gloves, boots, L Plates.. Sounds good so far... then on the back is a very pretty young girl with not even a lid on.. mostly found riding down the foot paths taking shortcuts round the estate Angry

    Re: summer biking

I've heard how people that do this rationalise what they are doing by saying it forces them to ride more carefully than when they are all kitted out. In my experience alot of these people riding around in shorts and t-shirts still ride like nobs. If that's riding carefully to them then they should take up another hobby - it's probably the only time they go out that year anyway!

    Re: summer biking

I never ride in flip flops, I find the gear lever digs into the top of my foot too much.  SO I where trainers, much more protective.  And I wear cut off trousers rather than shorts as they cover more, and normally a hoodie, as my ears get cold, and the hood protects them.
